Overcoming That Reflection In The Mirror

Admit it, we tend to constantly compare ourselves with others, and end up feeling disappointed most of the time. Truth be told, it is certainly easy to see others' success and then remind ourselves of how far we are lagging behind. STOP. Instead, let that be an opportunity for us to discover the qualities that we should improve and perfect.

In fact, what we should actually be doing is to think of our “unique selling points” and emphasise on them. When you compare yourself with someone else, what you are really doing is just belittling yourself. People are made differently. We each have our own strengths that we should be proud of. They key rule is to appreciate, not envy. Appreciate the success of other people, instead of envying it.

Ok so we've learnt to appreciate others' success, and use them as learning points to improve and better ourselves, what's next? Many people don't see nor understand this – yes, it's good to be successful in your own right, and having achieved success, you might think that everyone will be happy for you. But in reality, there will always be people who will not be happy with your achievements. They will do anything to bring you down, gossip about you, putting you down, belittle your achievements. Unfortunately, this is a fact we all must face. We will not be able to please everyone.

Ideally, count your blessings and know for a fact that everything happens for a reason. The current state you are in may not be your prime time to shine, but if you are willing to put in the hard work to reach your goals, everything will work out fine in the end. Be sure to make appropriate changes along the way if something isn't working.

Most importantly, know your own strengths and weaknesses. Use your weaknesses and transform them into your greatest motivation and strength to forge ahead despite the negativity from other people. Never allow anyone else to upset you. Do you know that such people delight in the fact that what they have said affects you? Focus on your tasks and goals at hand and pursue your goals.
